The Class of 2022: How will we meet their needs and expectations?

  1. Although students frequently engage in handheld devices, hard-copy books will always be in demand. Students who patronize our media center want to use the technology (computers), but not to read. They want to play games. When the internet goes down and the can not check out books, they get very upset. Librarians will always be "keepers of the books." They are also becoming the introducers of new technology.

  2. The author highlights several components that are important in reaching 21st century students; interactive lessons, real life learning experiences, reading for information. These components have always been critical in reaching students, they are just now being offered using a different medium.

  3. Interactive lessons utilizing interactive boards are essential in reaching 21st century students. They accommodate various learning styles and are great for demonstrations. Students are more focused during story time and are more eager to give feedback when they can interact with the board. It is definitely one of the important components of reaching 21st century students.
